He has a hound to appeal to every judge. If you don’t like ‘em too big, here’s a smaller one! If you don’t like ‘em too robust, here’s a finer one!

Ignored in Virginia and over-shadowed by his littermate, Teapot—judged best Unentered Hound at Virginia—Templeton went to Bryn Mawr determined to redeem himself.

“He’s a big hound, and he’s a bit shy at the shows,” said Laura Pitts, Larry’s daughter, who had Templeton’s lead in the Grand Championship class. “Outside the ring he dropped his tail as the loudspeaker went off. ‘Oh, no!’ I thought and got nervous myself that he wasn’t going to show himself, but when he entered the ring he realized he had a job to do. His tail popped up as if to say, ‘Okay, time to go!’

“Off the lead, when the judge [Mason Lampton] asked me to move him, I threw the biscuit a long way and he was completely focused and attentive,” recalled Laura.

Templeton is by Potomac Melvin 2005 out of their Terrain 2005.

“It was a really nice litter,” said Laura.

Indeed. Teamed up with Telford, Templeton and his littermate were second in the pairs class, and after winning her class, littermateTeapot finished up Reserve Champion American Bitch at Bryn Mawr.

Judges this year at Bryn Mawr were Dennis Foster (MFHA) and Brian Munn (Irish MFHA) in the American ring; Jeanie Thomas, MFH, Why Worry Hounds (SC) in the English Ring; George Thomas, MFH, Why Worry Hounds and Marion Thorne, MFH, Genesee Valley Hunt (NY) in the Crossbred Ring; and Mrs. Jane Fowler in the Penn-Marydel ring.

Streve Farrin, huntman for the Amwell Valley Hounds (NJ), won the horn blowing contest, thereby qualifying to compete for the National Horn Blowing Championship held at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in November.
