Sandy Dixon, MFH and huntsman of the Brazos Valley Hounds scored her second Grand Championship this season, this time at the Central States Hound Show on May 13, 2017 in Stilwell, Kansas. Brazos Valley Mudbug 2014, an American foxhound, was judged Best in Show.
Mudbug is by Brazos Valley Jett 2012 ex Brazos Valley Minnow 2010. Mudbug’s dam Winnow is by Brazos Valley Catfish 2006, a three-time Grand Champion at the Southwest Hound Show.
Mudbug’s sire Jett is by Potomac Jefferson 2005. Once again, the prepotent national grand champion Jefferson—the MFHA Centennial Grand Champion Foxhound of North America in 2007—appears in the tail male line of yet another Grand Champion.
Nor is Jett (Jefferson’s son) a stranger on the winner’s flags. Showing in 2012 at the Virginia Foxhound Show, Jett was judged Best American Un-entered Dog Hound (Under 20 Couple).
John Gray, huntsman of the Hillsboro Hounds (TN), judged hounds this year at Central States. Dr. Steven Thomas, honorary huntsman for the Leavenworth Hunt, was Show Secretary.
Competing hunts included Bijou Springs Hunt (CO), Brazos Valley Hounds (TX), Bridlespur Hunt (MO), Fort Leavenworth Hunt (KS), Mill Creek Hunt (IL), Mission Valley Hunt (KS), and North Hills Hunt (NE).
