I try to reveal the beauty of nature in my artwork through realism. From a young age I was drawn in by nature and my surroundings, from hiking in the woods to being an avid lover of animals and flowers. As I grew I became quite eclectic in my pursuit of art, but watercolors have remained my favorite medium with their opaqueness that can be full of surprises. Watercolor courses filled all my electives in college as I finished my degree in Psychology.
For twenty years now I have painted my own Christmas cards each year. Many of them were of animals, flowers, lighthouses or covered bridges. I became interested in foxhunting when a close friend and my daughter began actively foxhunting in the New England area.
In my paintings I love to capture that moment in time when the sun lights up a flower, an animals face, or the excitement from the thunder of horses hooves coming over a knoll with the hounds ahead in full motion. Depending on my subject I may use a variety of methods in my watercolors, incorporating wet in wet, flat wash, and graded wash. I usually work in layers, and lastly apply dry brush in the foreground to give definition if it is the look I am trying to achieve. Most of my watercolors are realistic, with multiple layers as I work toward the essence of what I am attempting to unveil.
My works have been exhibited and sold through local galleries. I have painted a number of commissioned works with horses as the subject matter, and have donated some original works to fund raisers. Giclee is my preferred method for museum quality prints.
