Two hounds from the Live Oak kennels in Monticello, Florida, took top honors at the Virginia Foxhound Show on May 30, 2010 at Morven Park near Leesburg. English Foxhound Champion Live Oak Maximus 2009 (Live Oak Daniel 2007–Their Mistress 2006) was judged Grand Champion, and Crossbred Champion Live Oak Apache 2008 (Live Oak Mascot 2005–Their Apricot 2004) was named Reserve Grand Champion.
Keswick Kiely 2007 (Piedmont Keswick 1999–Keswick Nectar 2004) was Champion American Foxhound, and Long Run Saigon 2009 (Long Run Sabor 2001–Their Polly 2001), with a pedigree full of Bob Crompton’s Andrew’s Bridge and Mr. Jeffords’ bloodlines, took the Penn-Marydel championship.
Judging foxhounds on this warm day were MFHs George Thomas and Dr. Jack Van Nagell in the American ring, Dennis Foster and Joseph Kent in the Crossbred ring for over thirty-five couple, Tony Leahy and Richard Laimbeer in the Crossbred ring for under thirty-five couple, Nigel Peel (UK) in the English ring, and David Jones (UK) in the Penn-Marydel ring. The overall champion class was judged by J.W.Y. “Duck” Martin, MFH. Ed Kelly, MFH judged the Performance Class, and Douglas Wise, MFH and Iona Pillion judged the Junior Handler Classes.
At festivities the previous evening, Deep Run huntsman John Tabachka won the horn blowing contest.
