Grand Champion Brazos Valley Two Step poses with Sandy Dixon, MFH and Judge Jordan Hicks.For the third consecutive year, a Brazos Valley foxhound was judged Grand Champion of the Southwest Hound Show hosted at Marvin Savage Farm in Weatherford, Texas, on Saturday, April 21, 2018.
This year, it was Brazos Valley Two Step 2016, an American dog hound, who collected top honors from judge Jordan Hicks, professional huntsman of the Piedmont Fox Hounds (VA).
Two Step sports a royal pedigree. He’s by Brazos Valley Mudbug 2014 out of Brazos Valley Marley 2010, both sire and dam having been Grand Champions in their time. Sire Mudbug was Grand Champion Foxhound at the Central States Hound Show last year, and dam Marley was Grand Champion at Southwest in 2012, again in 2016 at the age of seven (as a middle-aged mom), and was also a Grand Champion at the Central States Hound Show.
Marley is a part of Brazos Valley’s brilliant M-litter that also produced Mystic, a three-time consecutive Grand Champion at Southwest and the 2010 Grand Champion at Central States. The litter goes back two generations to the knockout handsome Potomac Jefferson 2005, who was named the MFHA Grand Champion Foxhound for the Centennial Year 2007. Jefferson was bred by Larry Pitts, then professional huntsman at the Potomac Hunt (MD). (Pitts currently serves as professional huntsman at the Bedford County Hunt in Virginia.)
In fact, this year’s Grand Champion Two Step is a great-grandson, tail male, to Jefferson as well. So, Two Step got himself a double dose of Jefferson’s genes, three generations removed, from both his sire *and* his dam.
Reserve Champion at the Southwest Hound Show is Bijou Springs Iris, an entered English bi*ch by Bijou Springs Lefty ‘13 out of Knoxville Inca ‘08. Her English sire goes back to College Valley & North North Umberland bloodlines; her Crossbred dam is tail male to a Fox River Valley foxhound and goes back to more College Valley & North North Umberland blood.
