Old Timer gives jockey Jacob Roberts and trainer Neil Morris their first wins of the day in the Novice Timber Race.
Trainer Neil Morris made a bold statement on his home turf at the Orange County Hounds Point-to-Point Races on Sunday, March 31, 2013 by saddling four winners on the card. The day’s racing was run at Locust Hill Farm in Middleburg, Virginia.
Morris-trained horses won three races for Kinross Farm, home to his training stables: Old Timer ridden by Jacob Roberts in the Novice Timber, Sand Box Rules (Chris Read) in the Open Timber, and King Ting (Jacob Roberts) in the Maiden Hurdle.

Sara Collette’s Wahoo (Jacob Roberts, again) won the won the Open Hurdle Race for the Morris team by jumping into the lead at the last fence and closing the door on Trappe d’Or and Jeff Murphy, front runners most of the way around. Roberts was leading rider for the day with three wins.

In the Amateur/Novice Rider Hurdle Race, Slaney Rock with Woods Winants aboard led the field as they turned for home. Mischief, last year’s leading hurdle horse, took over at the last fence and crossed the wire going away, but was ruled off course at the finish. Slaney Rock got the win.

Junior Erin Swope had a busy day. She began by winning the large pony division of the Junior Field Masters Chase on her Jordan. In the horse division she and Sweet Talking Guy were nosed out at the wire by Emmie Fullilove and GR’s Prize. Finally, in the Restricted Young Adult Flat Race, Erin rallied with Ameri Weber in the stretch for her second win, overcoming Mary Motion on Swimming River.
