Open Hurdle winner Old Timer and Chris Read (right) lead Robert Walsh on Better Than Ever.The Orange County Hounds Point-to-Point Races were held at Locust Hill Farm in Middleburg, Virginia on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Trainer Neil Morris made the most of his home turf by saddling both the win and place horses in the Open Hurdle Race. Kinross Farm’s Old Timer ridden by Chris Read jumped to the lead at the last fence and beat second-place finisher Humdinger to the wire by two lengths.
Eva Smithwick-trained Hey Doctor with Jacob Roberts up outlasted pacesetter I’m Telling, steadily cutting down the latter’s lead and finally passing him in the stretch to win by six lengths going away. Hey Doctor was the Open Hurdle winner two weeks ago at Warrenton as well.
Mariah’s Promise—ridden, owned, and trained by Michael Harris—finally prevailed over Annie Yeager’s Mischief. The latter, having won three straight Amateur/Novice Rider Hurdle Races this season, lost Yeager after the fourth fence, leaving the race to a new winner.
In the Junior Field Masters Chase, Erin Swope’s Jordan posted his fourth win this season in the Large Pony Division.
